Friend,

As I look back on the past year—as Chief Counsel at the Independence Law Center—I am especially thankful for all your support has enabled our team to do.

Between defending religious freedom in schools, responding to more requests for friend-of-the-court briefs than ever before, and helping protect the privacy rights of students, we've been hard at work to preserve the rights you care about.

But I wanted to take a minute to make sure you heard about something we are humbled to have the opportunity to do: defend young, vulnerable women who are being coerced to get abortions. My colleague, Michael Geer, shared the story in an email last week, and I wanted to make sure you got a chance to hear about what a difference your partnership makes. If you haven't yet, check out his message below.

Dear Friend,

Have you ever seen those posts on Facebook and other social media that say something like “Marked Safe from Earthquake” or “Marked Safe from Subway Crash”? They’ve developed in recent years as a way to quickly let your friends and family know - if you live somewhere near a disaster - that you’re ok.

Well, here’s a story of one little girl, who, if babies in the womb had social media, would say “Marked Safe from Abortion.”

It’s a story our Senior Counsel Jeremy Samek told at our recent Friends of the Family banquet, and one I thought you’d like to hear. It gives an inside look at the lifesaving work your partnership makes happen.

You can watch it on video here. And I have some details about the story to share. It began a few months ago, when Jeremy noticed a message through one of PA Family’s social media accounts.

“It was sent from somebody who I didn’t know who said that they knew somebody, who knew somebody, who knew a girl that was in trouble. She was 14 years old, she was 7 weeks pregnant and she was under lots of pressure to abort her baby.”

Even though it was the middle of the night, Jeremy called Dan and Emily from the PA Family staff. Far from being upset about a phone call that disrupted their sleep, everyone jumped into action, working to protect “Beth,” the 14 year-old girl, and her preborn child.

Our team contacted the local abortion center, warning them that under no circumstances should they abort this child, reminding them of the laundry list of legal charges that would be filed if they dared to do so.

Even still, the PA Family team knew this wasn’t about just the law.

God allowed our team a front row seat to walk beside Beth through her pregnancy. “Beth” went back and forth trying to decide what to do.

Jeremy offered advice to her father and step-mother as well. Emily would leave the office throughout Beth’s pregnancy to take her to medical appointments.

“I talked to Beth yesterday,” Jeremy recounted at the banquet. “And she was happy to have me tell you her story.”

“Tonight, I’m happy to report that Beth’s little baby girl, who once had a scheduled date to die in an abortion clinic, now has a different date in the schedule: a due date to be born on January 10th. Praise God.”

I thought it was important to share this story with each of you because it is an amazing testimony to the direct impact that you are making right here in Pennsylvania.

Through your support, the PA Family team was able to mobilize and help Beth and her preborn baby. We are so grateful for your generosity toward the PA Family Institute and for your prayers for all preborn children throughout the world.

Thank you for your commitment to life! We look forward to the day when every unborn child in Pennsylvania and beyond can be “Marked Safe from Abortion!”

Blessings,

Michael Geer

P.S. - PA Family is able to make more of these life-saving stories possible because of the generous partnership we have with people like you. Today, Friday, November 19th, is a wonderful opportunity to support the life-saving work of the Independence Law Center with the ExtraOrdinary Give - a one-day online day of giving. Please prayerfully consider a donation - which will be boosted thanks to the ExtraGive stretch pool.
